Trail Mix

Driving up to my parents cottage we used to pass the Iroquois Cranberry Growers which sadly is no more. I’d justify cranberry consumption in our house with the natural local thought. Now I look at the sugar content in the bulk option in slight horror, and I’m not clear where they are coming from yet I still default to stocking them for trail mix and granola. Seek out and buy good ones. This is simply a guide, add and subtract items as you wish.

  • 1 cup cashews, salted

  • 1 cup whole almonds, salted

  • 1 cup cranberries

  • 1 cup dried apples chopped

  • 1 cup raisins

  • 1 cup pepitas, pan dry roasted

  • 1/2 C salted sunflower seeds

  • 1 C chocolate chips (optional)

In a large bowl combine all ingredients.

Store in a sealed jar or resealable bag at room temperature and enjoy.

Cooks note: read cranberries sugar, natural only, no fructose. For nuts, I opt for salted but the healthier option is unsalted and of course, no sugar so opt-out of cranberries and chocolate. Roasted or raw, salted or unsalted...it’s your mix. At the soccer pitch, rink, car, canoe trip.
